When it comes to keeping New Zealand safe, FIRST Security has been putting in the mahi for over 25 years.

From stepping up during the 2011 Christchurch earthquake to supporting communities through COVID-19 and managing crowds at the Rugby World Cup, they’ve built their approach to security around real relationships and genuine partnerships.

Started by Ross Johnson with a focus on quality and reliability, FIRST Security has always been about putting people first and keeping everyone safe. From humble beginnings as a single foot patrol on Auckland’s Queen Street in 1999, the organisation has grown to become New Zealand’s leader in integrated security services, with over 30 branches spanning from Invercargill to Kaitaia.

BUILT ON RELIABILITY

When you’re on the clock 24/7, 365 days year, reliable vehicles are key especially for FIRST Security’s range of field work, patrols and electronic monitoring services. Constantly on the go, their hardworking fleet of nearly 100 Suzuki Swifts and Jimnys, roam Aotearoa day and night bringing peace of mind to New Zealanders.

“FIRST Security chose Suzuki because they’re the perfect size and fit for their operations,” explains Simon Terry, Suzuki Fleet Manager. “Three years’ worth of typical mileage is used on vehicles in just 12 months, so our efficient hybrid technology and 4WD capability made Suzuki the natural choice for such intensive and varied vehicle use.”

Their Field Services Officers are big Suzuki fans, saying that they find our vehicles the most comfortable to drive — pretty important when you’re spending long hours on the road keeping an eye out in our communities!

LEADING THE WAY

In July 2025, FIRST Security marked a significant milestone for not only their organisation, but the wider security sector. Sara Norrie joined as CEO, becoming New Zealand’s first female CEO in the physical security industry.

Norrie brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for people-focused leadership, customer-focused delivery, and innovation in complex environments.

“FIRST Security is a strong business with great people and innovating at pace,” says Norrie. “I’m excited to take on this new challenge in an industry that aligns closely with my experience.”
