New Suzuki Swift GL+ Adds More Equipment and Value

A higher specification version of the least expensive class-leading Suzuki Swift hatchback has gone on sale in New Zealand.

For a limited period, Suzuki is offering a Swift GL+ five-door in both manual and automatic transmission forms.

The new GL+ adds attractive 16-inch, ten spoke design aluminium alloy wheels shod with 185/55 tyres, colour-keyed door mirrors and door handles, cruise control, a leather-covered steering wheel with audio controls, six-speaker entertainment system, USB and Bluetooth hands-free equipment as standard.

In spite of this thorough upgrade, the recommended retail price increases by only $1,000 to $19,990 plus on-road costs for the manual and $20,990 when specified with automatic transmission.

Even with entry-level models, New Zealand buyers are seeking more comprehensive levels of appointment and convenience, said Gary Collins, general manager of motor vehicle marketing for Suzuki New Zealand. The GL+ answers this requirement while also being available at a highly competitive price which makes it excellent value for money.

The GL+ specification comes with air conditioning and pollen filter, full electrics, seven airbags and unique badging. The Swift is one of the best equipped cars in its class along with being one of the safest boasting a top five star ranking for Euro NCAP safety.

This limited edition GL+ arrives as the popular car celebrates a decade at the top of its class in the New Zealand market. With international sales topping four million units by last year, the Swift has been a huge on-going success story for Suzuki.

While the name has been used for 30 years, the Swift really came into prominence with the launching of the second generation version in 2004. Much of the car’s development was carried out on European roads and the body styling won instant appeal.

The current, more refined second generation Swift built on that success and in ten years the model has won no fewer than 60 significant motoring awards world-wide.

Independent reviewers praise the Swift for being roomy, comfortable, having a well-built cabin and refined 1.4 litre engine, said Collins. They also like the fact the car is quiet, has a well balanced chassis with a good ride and handles well.

The Swift is truly a global model being manufactured in Japan, Hungary, Thailand, India, and Malaysia. In New Zealand the Swift is sourced from Japan ensuring the model offers the highest possible build quality.
