New 2020 model Suzuki Swift Sport gains technological enhancement

Additional advanced safety features have been added to the latest 2020 model Suzuki Swift Sport that has just landed in New Zealand.

This flagship sports orientated version of a long-time number one seller in the local market benefits from a further specification upgrade and eye-catching new colours. For the first time the Swift Sport is offered with an optional black roof, contrasting with the body colours.

Suzuki anticipates the stunning new Flame Orange body colour will be a particular hit among new Swift Sport buyers. The new Ablaze Red and Speedy Blue are also available with the black roof, along with six other vibrant colour options.

The enduring and highly popular five-door body styling is retained while meaningful changes on the inside make the Swift even more appealing, especially to those who love their driving.

New features place an emphasis on safety for a car that already has a 5 Star ANCAP safety rating and include blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, rear parking sensors and heated side door mirrors.

Gary Collins, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand, says, “Swift Sport owners are technically savvy individuals so the increased safety technology will have strong appeal to this audience.”

At speeds above 15 km/h the blind spot monitor employs two rear mounted side radar sensors capable of detecting vehicles located in or approaching either side of the car. When a vehicle is detected a warning LED icon is illuminated in the door mirror.

In addition, if the driver indicates to change lanes and another vehicle is in the blind spot, a flashing LED icon is accompanied by a warning sound alert.

The rear cross traffic alert system assists the driver when maneuvering out of parking spaces where vision is obscured. When reversing at speeds up to 8 km/h the Suzuki uses a pair of rear mounted radar sensors to assist the driver by alerting them of approaching vehicles on either side. The driver is given a visual alert on the car’s multi-information display plus a warning sound.

Other advanced safety equipment continuing on the Swift Sport includes Dual Sensor Brake Support which uses a monocular camera and laser sensor for obstacle detection and pedestrian recognition. In addition there is lane departure warning, weaving alert, headlamp high beam assist that automatically switches headlamps between high and low beam depending on the presence of other vehicles and the lighting environment, and adaptive cruise control.

A digital speed readout is now added to the useful multi-functional display located in the centre of the instrument cluster. Another extra feature added within the multi-functional display is the new engine performance monitor that shows running performance, fuel economy and engine output.

Due to the significant upgrade in specifications, the latest Swift Sport recommended retail price has increased slightly, with the 6-speed manual version now $29,990, or $30,500 with optional black roof. In 6-speed automatic transmission guise, the retail is $30,990, and $31,500 with optional black roof.

“The Swift Sport has an amazing reputation in our market, dominating recent small car awards and an Automobile Association People’s Choice winner,” said Gary Collins. “With the safety specification enhancement and exciting new colours, we anticipate the new model will attract even more demand.”

Adding to the class-leading driver experience, the Sport’s lively yet fuel efficient 1.4 litre, direct injection turbocharged engine remains a highlight, along with the car’s striking aerodynamic body skirts, honeycomb grille, twin exhausts, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and diamond cut designed alloy wheels.

Inside are semi-bucket seats with red double stitching, embossed ‘Sport’ logos and side and shoulder bolsters for greater driver comfort. Red-black carbon-fibre patterned interior surfaces add to the appeal.

World sales of the Suzuki Swift are closing in on seven million units and the model is considered so iconic that an example has been displayed at Britain’s National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, alongside 250 examples of well known and classic cars of all ages.
