Meet Simon – Our Family DNA Competition Winner!
We hear generational boatie stories all the time, and we know there are countless family adventures powered by Suzuki out there waiting to be told. So, we reached out to the Suzuki Marine community to share their family histories and see who has the iconic red “S” firmly imprinted in their DNA.
Simon Wyatt’s story from Blenheim stood out - a lifetime of Suzuki memories passed down through generations. We’re stoked to crown Simon and his crew as our Suzuki Marine Family of the Year and hand over a brand-new COBB Grill NZ Pro Portable Cooker!
Have a read of Simon’s story yourself and see why we reckon he’s a true Suzuki legend.
“My dad got an 8hp Suzuki around 1980 - the motor I learned to boat with. By age 12, we spent every weekend exploring Port Underwood in a 12-foot dinghy. After thousands of hours, the gearbox wore out in the early ’90s. In ’96, I fitted a new Suzuki outboard and rebuilt the gearbox of the old one to give it a second life as my auxiliary motor. Now it hangs in my workshop as a family keepsake.
My shed’s packed with Suzuki gear - from an SJ413 4WD and a Jimny to an LT quad. I’m currently running the latest lightweight 15hp 2-stroke on my dinghy and debating whether to upgrade my boat with a DF60 or my bike to a V-Strom 250.
I volunteer with The Back Country Trust and cook on remote DOC hut trips. I can’t wait to try the new COBB Grill as it’s light, versatile design will be perfect for helicopter access!”
