Pint-Size Swifts Hit the Road
There’s a place in Auckland where everyone drives Swifts. Created in partnership with The Automobile Association and Suzuki, AA Drivers’ Town is a new attraction at Rainbow’s End.
It gives kids aged 5-13 the chance to drive miniature Suzuki Swifts around a colourful, tiny town.
As well as being loads of fun, AA Drivers’ Town has an educational component that schools have already expressed an interest in. Dougal Swift, AA General Manager Membership & Brand hopes the new attraction will encourage positive attitudes to driving; “It moves beyond entertainment into educational play in a fun and engaging way. It provides a great opportunity for kids to learn basic road rules, patience and healthy attitudes to driving safely.”
With over 1,200 sqm of driving area the town is roofed in so kids are protected from the elements. There are working traffic lights, two-way roads, roundabouts, parking spaces, a car wash, and petrol station.
The fleet of 20 mini Swifts are replicas of the real Suzuki Swifts the AA Driving School use throughout the community as part of their driver education programme. Just like the real thing, they have an accelerator, brake, steering wheel, indicator and horn (although kids might have to wait for airbags, ABS and Sat Nav).
Rainbow’s End is New Zealand’s best-loved theme park. It opened in 1982 and employs close to 300 staff. Ahead of some very tough international competition it recently received the prestigious IAAPA Top Family Entertainment Centre of the World Award for Kidz Kingdom.
“The involvement of the AA and Suzuki is crucial to the new attraction’s authenticity and appeal.” Chris Deere CEO, Rainbow’s End.
