LET'S GET RACING!
YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS THE THRILLS AND SPILLS OF THIS MOTORSPORT CLASS
Now into it's third year, the Swift Sport Cup has become the rising star of the New Zealand motorsport scene. Promoted to a fully flegded stand-alone one-make racing championship this season proves how closely fought the competition it is out on the track, in fact probably one of the most competitive racing events on the summer motorsport calendar.
The race-modified 1.6-litre Suzuki Swift Sport cars used are affordable and identical - meaning you can expect frantic battles between the evenly matched race cars. To win, it comes down to driver nerve, their skills and race technique in the quest for that checkered flag at the end of the race. The emphasis of the class is clearly on driver ability, and their adaptability to each race situation.
DRIVERS - GET READY TO RACE
You can expect some frantic battles between the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup
race cars drivers if the early rounds of the championship are any indication.
As Shaun Summerfield from TV3 puts it, "close racing, thrilling passing moves and the odd bit of biff are the key ingredients to a great race, and that’s exactly what the Suzy’s deliver. So far this year the Swifts have matched and sometimes bettered, the other classes in the New Zealand Motorsport Championship. From Scott Harrison’s spectacular cartwheel at the opening round, to Will Bamber’s audacious pass on the final turn at Ruapuna – these little tikes have delivered every single race."
William Bamber, last season’s runner-up and Rookie of the Year, looks set to dominate having won both rounds so far. But Ben Dallas is right behind while Cody McMaster, Alan Dunkley and Matt Gibson are all determined to knock Bamber off top spot before the end of the season.
Ok race fans, here’s your chance to get behind the wheel of your own Swift Sport with Motorsport New Zealand.
