Often referred to as – the one to watch – Kris Gemmell is probably New Zealand’s most promising triathlete. After his international debut at the 1997 Junior World Championships in Perth, where he finished in a creditable 6th place, Kris has gone on to be ranked in the top 5 world rankings for the last 4 years running. That has included 4x ITU (International Triathlon Union) World Cup wins and 12x ITU World Cup podiums. As one of the major favourites for the Olympics in Beijing, Kris endured a freak accident in the last lead up race before the Olympics resulting in a nasty foot injury. This kept Kris out of the medals at Beijing, however just 6 weeks later he showed his metal by winning the last round of the World Cup Series in Hautulco, Mexico. The Beijing nightmare for Kris is behind him and with sheer determination, his drive and future goal setting propelling him forward, no one would argue he won’t get there! Training continues for this world-class athlete, now firmly focussed on success at the new World Championship Series. This 8 race series will take place in some of the Worlds most iconic cites, with guaranteed live television coverage for every event. Taking the sport and Kris to whole new level of professionalism, where Suzuki New Zealand will be his driving force every step of the way.
