Not just our heroes, the mighty Vodafone Warriors were everyone’s favourites in 2008 as they came to within one game of the NRL grand final. The team has come a long way since it entered the NRL in 1995, just missing the play-offs for the first few seasons, but making it to the Super League World Cup Challenge semi-final in 1997.

After a shaky couple of seasons, the club started to make real progress as new captain Stacey Jones inspired his players to new heights. In 2001, the Warriors made the play-offs for the first time, losing their finals match to Parramatta. Then in 2002, their first Grand Final against the Roosters. Through sheer grit and determination, the Vodafone Warriors are now in the NRL big time, producing a number of genuine super stars along the way, and making their loyal home crowd – and us all – very proud.
