Top Safety Test Rating for Suzuki Kizashi in Australian Crash Tests

The Suzuki Kizashi medium size four-door sedan has come up trumps in approved crash safety tests.

A 5-Star safety rating has been awarded to the 2.4-litre Kizashi by the Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) following recent crash testing.

This same rating - the highest possible - was also given to the new generation Suzuki Swift which recently went on sale in New Zealand.

ANCAP chairman, Lauchlan McIntosh, congratulated Suzuki for focussing on safety in its 2011 models and said it was pleasing to see more manufacturers stepping up to the 5-Star mark.

“Crash tests showed the Swift and the Kizashi held the shape of the passenger compartment well,” said McIntosh. “Occupants were well protected with seven airbags, including a driver knee bag, all standard on the 2011 models. Electronic stability control is also standard on both models.”

The ANCAP vehicle safety ratings are supported by both the Australian and New Zealand governments and by all Australasian motoring clubs.

Launched in New Zealand last year, the Kizashi is Suzuki’s debut entry into the medium size market and has figured well in international crash testing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has also given Kizashi a 5-Star crash test rating following its NCAP testing in the United States.

In the American tests, Kizashi received 5-Stars in both the frontal and side-impact crash tests for all seating positions.

Meanwhile the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in the USA says Kizashi has drawn “good” ratings - the highest possible - for its performance in front and side-impact crash tests.

The well equipped car also received an “acceptable” rating - the second highest - for rollover protection and a “good” rating for protection against whiplash injury in rear impact crashes.

“Results of these tests underpin the thoroughness and engineering integrity of the Kizashi design and are highly reassuring for anyone driving or passengering in the car,” said Gary Collins, Sales Manager for Suzuki New Zealand.
