A fast moving pair with an eye on the competitive edge has taken over a rapidly expanding motor vehicle brand in Dunedin.
Otago-born Emma Gilmour, one of New Zealand’s top rally drivers, and partner Glenn Macneall, are opening Gilmour Suzuki in the heart of Dunedin.
With the opening of the new dealership on October 22, the Suzuki automobile franchise for the area moves from Southern Motor Group to the new stand-alone outlet.
Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand, paid tribute to Southern Motor Group for its work in marketing, selling and servicing the Suzuki automobile brand for 20 years.
“Southern Motor Group has taken a different direction, and we wish them well in their future endeavours,” he said.
Meanwhile the arrival of a new dealership in Dunedin headed by a well known motor sport personality signalled a fresh path for the Suzuki brand with its growing range of models and rising market awareness.
Thirty-year-old Gilmour has been rallying for eight years, finished runner-up in the 2010 Vantage New Zealand Rally Championship and was recently voted the highest ranking female rally driver in the world by the International Rally Drivers Association.
Personable Emma has also been named the Automobile Association’s Road Safety Champion in her quest to make our roads a safer place.
She met Glenn, 38, several years ago when he agreed to navigate for her in a rally, and things have looked up ever since.
Gilmour Motors is a family owned company that has serviced the people of Otago for two decades. The business has been operated by Emma’s father Alistair and takes a significant step forward with the acquisition of the Suzuki franchise.
Gilmour Suzuki is located in a showroom opposite the Oval at 874 Princes Street in Dunedin where a full range of services from new and used Suzuki motor vehicles, servicing and Suzuki parts and accessories are available.
