Special Sports-Oriented Suzuki Swift SR6 Will Be Limited Edition
27 January 2010
A new Special Edition SR6 version of the top-selling Suzuki Swift five-door hatchback has been launched in New Zealand.
The Swift SR6 adds an extra touch of distinction to the popular Swift and also celebrates the car’s continued domination of the small car class.
In 2009, for the fifth successive year, the Suzuki Swift was the best-selling compact supermini car in New Zealand.
The SR6 is being offered in limited quantities and, despite the high level of appointment, carries only a small price premium over the Swift GLX model.
It is fitted as standard with a host of performance and cosmetic extras, with an accent on sports motoring, and reflects the car’s achievements in motor racing.
Seventeen inch TSW Rail aluminium alloy wheels with liquid smoke background replace the 15-inch diameter wheels on the standard GLX, and are fitted with Bridgestone MY01 205/40 R17 tyres.
The SR6 is available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or four-stage electronically controlled automatic transmission, and manual versions come with a Coby sports rear muffler.
It is powered by a 1.5-litre, 75 kW M15A double overhead camshaft engine with variable valve timing and four valves per cylinder.
Six airbags, anti-lock brakes with EBD and brake assist, decoupling mechanism for brake and clutch pedals and an immobiliser are standard.
A factory colour-keyed body kit includes front under skirts, lower side mouldings, rear under spoiler and a rear upper spoiler.
SR6 body graphics distinguish the limited edition Swift which is available in Bluish Black, Azure Grey, Pearl White, Supreme Red, Silky Silver and Kashmir Blue.
Optional leather upholstery is likely to attract strong buyer interest, according to Suzuki New Zealand.
The leather upgrade has been developed by retro Vehicle Enhancements and features a new leather seat pattern with added bolstering, silver stitching and unique “SR6” badging. Leather upholstery adds $2,500 to the price of the car.
In manual transmission form, the SR6 has a recommended retail price of $22,500, just $1,000 more than the Swift GLX model. The SR6 automatic is priced at $23,990.
“The SR6 offers close to $4,000 worth of accessories for a price premium of only one quarter of this value,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand. “This model is not only a distinctive looking addition to the Suzuki range but is also fine recognition of the Swift’s on-going success in New Zealand.”
“Internationally the Swift has been a major success and it is the most popular Suzuki passenger car model ever launched in our market,” he said.
Suzuki expects strong demand for the SR6 which will be restricted in volume and only be available for a limited time.
