A sports rendition in concept form based on New Zealand’s top-selling small car has been unveiled by Suzuki Motor Corporation.

The pearl yellow-coloured hatchback provides an idea of how a high performance version of the new generation Suzuki Swift could look.

Shown for the first time at the recent Geneva motor show, the Suzuki Swift S-Concept builds on the already handsome styling of the production version.

The S-Concept uses the production Swift body but with subtle changes to emerge as a spectacular looking car.

There’s a more aggressive black grille and deeper air intake below the front bumper that echoes the current Swift Sport.

Low-mounted strakes across the front fog lamps also distinguish the show car, while a carefully crafted lower side body kit and hatchback spoiler add to the individuality.

Newly shaped bumpers front and rear have been fitted and silver finished embellishments on the front side guards, behind the doors on the lower panel and either side of the rear bumper add a special touch.

Headlamps and rear combination lamps are rendered in exclusive designs with high-tech accents and the maker says the attention-grabbing pearl yellow paintwork “reflects Suzuki’s sporty DNA”.

Two exhaust pipes protrude through the rear diffuser which is superbly finished with a carbon fibre look.

At 3,890 mm, the S-Concept is 40 mm longer than the production Swift, and while it sits on the same wheelbase, the extravert body is 60 mm wider.

In keeping with the performance image of the car, the concept Swift is 1,475 mm high - 35 mm lower than the standard model.

While the production Swift is available with either 15-inch or 16-inch diameter wheels, the S-Concept sits on 15-spoke, 18-inch diameter aluminium alloy wheels with 225/45R Bridgestone Potenza low profile tyres.

The car’s technical specification has been uprated to allow for the more powerful engine, including five stud fixing for the wheels instead of four-stud.

Power comes from a 1.6-litre four cylinder engine driving through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Yellow, black and dark grey metallic colours have been used throughout the interior, and the supportive Recaro bucket front seats are finished in black with yellow side trimming.

Parts of the centre console are made from carbon fibre and the steering wheel, seats and meter clusters are all unique to this special Swift.

“Suzuki has described the S-Concept as a premium sports compact with uncompromised performance,” said Tom Peck, General Manager of Marketing for Suzuki New Zealand. “It provides a clue to future models but it is, of course, a show car not destined for production in this precise form.”
