SUZUKI SIGNS DOUBLE NATIONAL CHAMPION

Just when it didn’t seem possible life is about to get even more golden for Mangakino youngster Kayne Lamont.

The 16-year-old raced away with two major titles at the New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships near Blenheim last month – comfortably winning both the 14-16 years’ 250cc class and the 15-16 years’ 125cc class titles – and today he has announced he has signed up to ride for the Suzuki New Zealand race team, which is based at the MotoGB dealership in Mount Maunganui, co-owned by Andrew Hardisty and Mike Fisher.

After many years associated with the Yamaha brand the talented professional will now ride the familiar yellow of the RM-Z250 and RM125 model bikes of the Suzuki Company.

“We are thrilled to have a young and up-and-coming rider of Kayne’s ability on the team,” said Hardisty.

“It’s great to be able to offer him that next level of support.   He will have plenty of fresh opportunities with Suzuki and we look forward to seeing him develop as a racer.”

Lamont’s parents are also thrilled with the latest development.

“Kayne trained under Andrew (Hardisty) for many years, particularly in his younger days,” said Lamont’s father, Stu. “He has always been a fine mentor for our son.

“It’s sad to leave Yamaha because they have been outstanding for us but Suzuki put together a very attractive deal and Kayne will be a part of a very professional team.   It has been a tough decision to make but we needed to take him to that next level.”

Lamont’s first major assignment is to contest the Junior Motocross World Championships in France in August.

He well then return to join Mount Maunganui’s Cody Cooper under the Suzuki New Zealand banner at the New Zealand senior motocross nationals, which kick off near Timaru in October.

Team Suzuki New Zealand is sponsored by Fox Racing, Elf lubricants, Scott goggles, FMF pipes, Pirelli Tyres, Acerbis, Vesrah brake pads, NGK Spark Plugs, D.I.D Chain, Hi Flo filters, Renthal bars and grips MotoGB Suzuki, Speed Shop, and iLabb graphics.
