Biofuel - Options for Your Suzuki

What is Biofuel?

Biofuels are solid, liquid, or gaseous fuels derived from decayed biological material rather than fossil fuels such as coal or oil. Various agricultural crops, landfill off-gassing and recycled vegetable oils are used for the manufacture of Biofuels.

Because they put less pressure on natural resources and are considered less polluting, using Biofuel blends is one way New Zealand motorists can help address the impact of climate change and keep carbon emissions down.

The technology to produce Biofuels is relatively new. New Zealand is therefore taking a cautious approach to ensure we use only biofuels that can be sustainably produced.

If you are interested in trying Biofuels in your Suzuki, make sure your car is suitable by referring to the “What’s Right for Your Suzuki” table below. No modifications are normally required and if you are not happy with the results, you can switch back to regular fuel.

Types of Biofuel currently available in New Zealand

E10 - GASOLINE ETHANOL BLEND
Called E10 because it is regular gasoline with 10% blended ethanol (grain alcohol), this is also known as gasohol and is commercially available in many parts of the country. Provided the octane rating is no lower than the gasoline recommended for your car, it can be used in most recent model Suzukis (see table below).

CAUTION:
Be careful not to spill fuel containing alcohol while refueling as they can cause paint damage which is not covered under the New Suzuki Vehicle Limited Warranty.

B5 - BIODIESEL
A blend of 95% ordinary mineral diesel and 5% Biodiesel made mainly from vegetable oils or animal fats, you may be able to use B5 without noticing any difference and without any engine or fuel system modifications (see table below).
